Downloads

From this page you can download updates to your current Datatech software.  For each download that is available, we list the current version number, revision date, size of the file, and approximate time to download.  If you want to check your current version to see if you need to download an update, click here for instructions.  For help downloading and installing the updates to our Windows software, click here.

Version:  3.3r (8/18/2005)
File size:  1.9 Mb
Approximate download time for dial-up connections 7 minutes at 56k

Download/Installation Instructions

Click on the link to begin downloading the update file.  If your browser does not automatically start saving the file, or ask you where you want to save it, you may need to right click on the above link and select the "Save Link As..." option.

The filename is SETUP.EXE.  Remember where you save this file, because you'll need to run it once you have downloaded it.  For example, if you download it to your C: drive, you need to click on Start, select Run..., and type in "C:\SETUP.EXE".

Note:  If you have previously downloaded an update and have not deleted that previous update file, your browser will confirm whether you want to overwrite the existing file or not.  You can answer "Yes" to the question to overwrite.

One easy way to do it is to download the file to the your desktop so that an icon for the file will appear right on your screen.  To do this, click on the drop-down list at the top of the Save As... window.  Select "Desktop" at the very top of the drop down list.  When the file is done downloading, you will see an icon appear on the Windows desktop, and you can simply double click on the icon to begin the installation.  When the installation is done, you can right-click on the icon and select "Delete" to remove it.

Please Note: The update installation program defaults to installing the update in the default directory.  For The Farmer's Office 2000, this would be "C:\WinFarm"; for WinChem 2000 this would be "C:\WinChem".  If you have installed the program on another drive or folder (for instance, if you installed on a network to "G:\WinChem") then you will need to specify the directory to update when you run the SETUP file.  Otherwise, the update will be installed in the wrong directory and you will still be running the old program.

 Checking Your Version

To check the current version that you are running, go to the Help menu of the Datatech application, and select the About... option.  A window similar to the following will open.

For the curious:  What does the version number mean?  In this example (1.5h), the "1" is the major version number.  The "5" is the minor version number.  The "h" is a revision letter code.  Usually, a change in the revision letter (which starts at "a" of course) is used to signify bug fixes or minor changes from the previous version.  A change in the minor version number usually indicates the addition of some new features.  A change in the major version number indicates the completion of several new features or other major upgrade.
